Solving the Boltzmann Equation

چکیده
In [32, 31], fast deterministic algorithms based on spectral methods were derived for the Boltzmann collision operator for a class of interactions including the hard spheres model in dimension 3. These algorithms are implemented for the solution of the Boltzmann equation in dimension 2 and 3, first for homogeneous solutions, then for general non homogeneous solutions. The results are compared to explicit solutions, when available, and to Monte-Carlo methods. In particular, the computational cost and accuracy are compared to those of Monte-Carlo methods as well as to those of previous spectral methods. Finally, for inhomogeneous solutions, we take advantage of the great computational efficiency of the method to show an oscillation phenomenon of the entropy functional in the trend to equilibrium, which was suggested in the work [16].

Electrostatic analysis of the charged surface in a solution via the finite element method: The Poisson-Boltzmann theory
Electrostatic potential as well as the local volume charge density are computed for a macromolecule by solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) using the finite element method (FEM). As a verification, our numerical results for a one dimensional PBE, which corresponds to an infinite-length macromolecule, are compared with the existing analytical solution and good agreement is found. As a ma...

The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is a partial differential equation that describes the electrostatic behavior of molecules in ionic solutions. Significant efforts have been devoted to accurate and efficient computation for solving this equation. In this paper, we developed a boundary element framework based on the linear time fast multipole method for solving the linearized PoissonBoltzmann equat...
متن کاملSolving Boltzmann Equation, Part I: Green’s Function
We present an approach for solving the Boltzmann equation based on the explicit construction of the Green’s functions. The Green’s function approach has been useful for the study of nonlinear interior waves and the boundary waves. In this Part I we study the Green’s functions for the initial and initial-boundary value problems. In the forthcoming Part II, we will study the general solutions of ...

Direct methods for solving the generalized Boltzmann equation are advanced by simulating flow past threedimensional immersed bodies in diatomic nitrogen in rotational-translational non-equilibrium. The simulations are performed by solving the entire domain with the generalized Boltzmann equation using a solver based upon the conservative discrete ordinates method of Tcheremissine. Coarse and re...
متن کاملComparison of The LBM With the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson Method Solution of Transient Two-Dimensional Non-Linear Burgers Equation
Burgers equation is a simplified form of the Navier-Stokes equation that represents the non-linear features of it. In this paper, the transient two-dimensional non-linear Burgers equation is solved using the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM). The results are compared with the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson method (MLCN) and exact solutions. The LBM has been emerged as a new numerical method for sol...
متن کاملThe Quantum Statistical Mechanical Theory of Transport Processes
A new derivation of the quantum Boltzmann transport equation for the Fermion system from the quantum time evolution equation for the wigner distribution function is presented. The method exhibits the origin of the time - irreversibility of the Boltzmann equation. In the present work, the spin dependent and indistinguishibility of particles are also considered.
